1. On Instagram using an Emoji can generate up to 17% more engagement

Quintly conducted a study recently and found that using an emoji in your Instagram post will result in 17% more interaction. Over 23,000 profiles and 6,000,000 profiles were analysed, the accounts which included emojis have a 2% interaction rate compared to the 1.7% without.

They also conducted a study on the most used emoji on Instagram (diagram above).

2. Donald Trump’s inauguration generated 15 million social media engagements

On the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration there was a staggering 15 million engagements on social posts on Facebook & Twitter alone.

The engagement rate was at its most high when the Obama family met Donald Trump at the White House – at moment now notorious for Michelle Obama’s facial expressions.

3. Total spending on Internet advertising predicted to grow by 12% in 2017

A study found that during 2017 total spending on digital/internet advertising is set to grow by 12.6%.

Internet spending is set to become the largest advertising medium taking over television ads.

However, traditional (non-digital) advertising spend is set to drop by 2%.

4. Email Marketing provides the best ROI of any digital marketing channel

Over 75% of small to medium sized business rated email marketing as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’ when it comes to ROI, which is up 60% over the past 12 months. Under 5% of those asked rate email as ‘poor’ for ROI’. This is surprising as the number for ‘poor’ ratings on display advertising is over 25%.

Amazingly only 10% of marketing budgets in the UK is being invested in email marketing but results in over 20% of total sales – is email underappreciated?

5. The majority of emails are now opened on mobile devices

During 2016 it was officially announced that emails are now more likely to be opened on Mobile than desktop, 54% are opened on mobile to be exact. This probably doesn’t come as a surprise to most people.
